  • West Virginia U. has outbreak of hand, foot, and mouth disease

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (KDKA) — West Virginia University has postponed its Fan Day with the Mountaineer football team over an outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease. Fan Day was initially scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The WVU Athletic Department says five cases of hand, foot and mouth disease have been identified within the school’s football program. Because the disease is highly contagious, the Athletic Department says it is in “the best interest of the general public to postpone the event.” https://247sports.com/college/michigan-state/Board/93/Contents/West-Virginia-has-outbreak-of-hand-foot-and-mouth-disease-120820744/

    Pruitt doing the defensive playcalling....

Jeremy Pruitt took the podium after Tennessee’s second scrimmage of the fall on Saturday, and the Vols’ coach gave several updates regarding his team. That included defensive playcalling as Pruitt told the media that he’ll “probably” be the one calling defensive plays this season. He said any coach on his staff could do it, but it will likely be his responsibility. One hot topic during the preseason has been the ongoing quarterback competition, but Pruitt didn’t have much of an update there. All four quarterbacks had equal playing time during the scrimmage. “I think eventually, when the first guy or the second guy or the third guy shows himself, we’ll whittle it down,” Pruitt told the media “Until then, we’ll stay status quo until we figure it out.”

Vols' Chryst named to Johnny Unitas Golden Arm watch list

Keller Chryst hasn’t been named Tennessee’s starting quarterback, and there’s no guarantee that he’ll ever be named Tennessee’s starting quarterback. That didn’t stop Chryst from being named to the watch list of a prestigious national award, though. Chryst — a senior graduate transfer from Stanford — on Tuesday was named to the watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm, which is presented annually to the top senior or fourth-year junior quarterback in college football. First-year Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt insists there are still four legitimate competitors for the first-team quarterback job, but it’s widely believed that Chryst and sophomore Jarrett Guarantano are the top two candidates for the spot. Chryst — a Charlotte, N.C. native who went to high school in Palo Alto, Calif. — started 13 games at Stanford the past two seasons but wasn’t likely to be the team’s starter this season, so he earned his undergraduate degree and took advantage of the NCAA’s graduate-transfer rule and chose to finish his career at Tennessee. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Chryst was the nation’s No. 51 overall prospect and No. 3 pro-style quarterback prospect in the the 2014 industry-generated 247Sports Composite, and the No. 6 overall prospect in talent-rich California. Kyle Allen and Will Grier — the starting quarterback at West Virginia, which will open the season against Tennessee — were the two quarterbacks ranked ahead of Chryst in that cycle, and players like DeShone Kizer, Mason Rudolph and Pat Mahomes were ranked behind him. Here’s the full release on Chryst being named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm watch list, courtesy of the Tennessee sports information office.
