  6. It is no rumor Tennessee quarterback Brian Maurer "is probably doubtful" for the Vols' game against South Carolina on Saturday (4 p.m. ET, SEC Network), coach Jeremy Pruitt said Wednesday. Maurer suffered a concussion against Alabama, marking the second straight game he exited with a concussion. Maurer, a freshman, started the past three games. If he's not available, that leaves veteran Jarrett Guarantano and redshirt freshman J.T. Shrout, who has never started a game. “We’re giving them both the same amount of reps," Pruitt said. "We’re down to two quarterbacks probably for this week.” Maurer was not at Wednesday's practice after throwing some pass routes during non-contact open periods of Tuesday's practice. Maurer indicated in an Instagram post on Wednesday that he was at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He has since deleted that post. “We have great doctors here at the university," Pruitt said, "but just like anywhere else I’ve been, you always, if there’s a specialist somewhere, you send somebody (for evaluation). … We want the best care for our players, and we can provide it. If there’s something that we think that we need to send somebody somewhere else, we will.” Brian Maurer sees specialist, 'doubtful' for Tennessee's game vs. South Carolina WWW.TENNESSEAN.COM Tennessee quarterback Brian Maurer "is probably doubtful" for the Vols' game against South Carolina on Saturday, coach Jeremy Pruitt said Wednesday. I hate playing against Will Muschamp's teams. It seems like he always has our number. Maybe Jeremy can change it this year

I could not agree more. Tradition is not what it used to be, especially when you lose 12 in a row.

  14. From Facebook Not sure how many of you know the story of this tower. It is in Mosul, Iraq on one of Saddams sons former compounds. a Cpt from the 101st was tasked with getting it painted...so he did. Whenever I needed a lift I would fly by this on the way in or out of the airfield. So for those who think being a Volunteer is simply about wins or losses, consider what went into painting this tower and what it meant to those of us who had a chance to see it in person. "I will give my all for Tennessee today" is more than just a slogan and I thank God every day I'm still around to take my kids to see Tennessee play. (feel free to return to complaining)..Scott Pope
  15. According to the Knox News Sentinel, Tennessee linebacker Jeremy Banks was arrested in the early morning hours on Sunday. At 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, University of Tennessee police arrested Banks, who had a warrant out for failing to appear in court for a misdemeanor citation for driving on a suspended license that he received back in July. Banks was released on a $500 bond after his arrest on Sunday. Banks was stopped by the university police shortly before 4:00 a.m. after making an illegal U-turn. The sophomore linebacker received a written warning for the violation, but he was subsequently arrested when records showed an active warrant for his failure to appear. Banks was cited for driving on a suspended license on July 17 by the university police. His court date was set for Aug. 21. Tennessee football spokesman Zach Stipe told the News Sentinel that the school is aware of Banks arrest and that the issue has now been resolved. "We are aware of the situation," Stipe said. "It was related to an unresolved traffic violation, which he has now resolved." Banks was a three-star recruit and the No. 16 running back in the 2018 signing class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Since coming to Knoxville, Banks has bounced back and forth between the running back and linebacker positions, but he's been able to settle in at linebacker this season. Banks had his best game as a Vol on Saturday afternoon against UT-Chattanooga. The running back turned linebacker was able to intercept two Mocs passes on the day, and head coach Jeremy Pruitt liked what he saw from Banks as the young player learns his new position. Pruitt just wishes Banks would've channeled his inner running back after the first pick. “I told him when he intercepted that first one that the first guy tackled him," Pruitt said."Most good running backs make the first one miss. So I made sure to point that out. I’m glad Jeremy got to play. He’s a guy that, kind of along with a lot of younger guys, (is learning) just what it takes to be a good football player at the collegiate level. The time that you have to put in on your own to get prepared. It comes with maturity. And it comes with being around guys that know how to get it done the right way. Talking about other players. "So he’s a guy that continues to improve. And I’m glad to see he was in the right spot one time. The second time he probably didn’t have near as good as coverage. But it was good to see that. He’s a guy that, one thing about it, handled the ball in high school, that play defense (in college), they get turnovers. They’re used to handling the ball. You see that, getting two interceptions today.” Report: Vols LB Jeremy Banks arrested for active warrant 247SPORTS.COM One Tennessee LB was arrested on Sunday morning...

Gator Week is here - Discussion

I don't agree with being better off with Felipe playing. He broke our back as a freshman in 2017 with a Hail Mary pass. Last year we lost 47-21 (and we had 6 turnovers of course) with Felipe at the helm.. I say the Vols need to seize this opportunity with the coaches coaching their asses off. Our players are hungry
  18. From start to finish on Saturday afternoon, the Vols dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the football for the first time in a calendar year. But it's not because this team hasn't given it their all says SEC Network analyst Gene Chizik, who took Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee naysayers to task after the Vols' first win of the 2019 season. "I saw a team that was improved and I saw a team that wanted to come out there and make a statement,” Chizik said on SEC Now. “They didn’t care about what anybody said about them all week. This team didn’t quit. They didn’t quit last week and they didn’t quit two weeks ago. "I want to make this clear to everybody out there who has painted the narrative that this is a bad football team. Have they played great? Not necessarily, but this team will win some games." After Ty Chandler scored the game's first touchdown in the opening minutes with a 13-yard run around the left side, Vols quarterback Jarrett Guarantano went 7 of 8 for 142 yards and three scores before sitting out the second half. Tennessee led 38-0 at halftime in a game that was decided in the first quarter. “Today was a complete game," Chizik said. "Opening kickoff, 58-yard return. You got blocked punts. Touchdown passes. Today, they loved to play the game. They were efficient. They did everything they could’ve done to go out there and kind of shut everybody up. "I know what they’re going to say, “It’s Chattanooga.” But they lost last week to BYU. And BYU beat 24th-ranked USC today. That was a not a bad loss. They’re getting better. They need to improve, there’s no question, but this team has not quit." Only Tennessee's 10th win in three seasons, the Vols (1-2) will try and use this as a stepping stone to bigger and better things entering SEC play. "The one thing that you never want to get is where (losing) doesn't bother you," Pruitt said. "It bothers me. I can't sleep at night. I probably make everybody in our building miserable because of it. I know I do at home. We've got to get our players to where that's the way they are, and we've got a lot of them in our program that are that way." For veterans like Guarantano, getting a notch in the win column alleviates a ton of pressure after two disappointing losses to start the year. "There were definitely some trying times and tough times, but I learned more about myself in these past two weeks and these trying times than I ever have," Guarantano said after the game. "I don't think I ever really went through something like that, and I'm happy to get over the hump and am starting to feel like myself again."
  19. Gaturds back up QB Kyle Trask looked good filling in for Franks. I think two touchdowns including running one in himself..
