Vols baseball: Vols slam auburn 17-4 with wild 7th

Recommended Posts

No. 1 Tennessee (39-3, 18-1 SEC) scored 15 runs on 16 hits with six homers in the seventh and eighth innings to smash No. 21 Auburn (30-13, 11-8) 17-4.

UT's six homers brought its season total to 100 through 42 games. UT hit 98 homers last season in 68 games. The program record is 107, set in 1998 in 56 games.

“Being able to hit 100 homers at this time in the season, that shows there is a lot of talent in this lineup," catcher Evan Russell said. "If we continue to take the swings we are taking, we will be in good shape.”

Ortega and Russell homered in the seventh and eight innings. Blake Burke and Trey Lipscomb homered in the eighth.
