The Vols forced four turnovers to paper over a mediocre performance from their offense. Tennessee (4-5) must win two of its remaining three games to qualify for a bowl bid for the first time since the 2016 season. UAB (6-2) flopped in its first appearance against a Power 5 opponent this season. Here are five things we learned. UAB quarterback makes a mess of things The Blazers turned the ball over on their first play from scrimmage, when quarterback Tyler Johnston III threw a pass right to cornerback Bryce Thompson. Thompson tied Tennessee’s single-game record with three interceptions. UAB had four turnovers on nine first-half possessions. Three of those turnovers occurred on the first play of a drive. Johnston fumbled to go along with his three interceptions. He’s thrown 13 interceptions this season.
