Tennessee won back-to-back games for the first time this season by beating UAB 30-7 on Saturday night at Neyland Stadium.

The Vols forced four turnovers to paper over a mediocre performance from their offense.

Tennessee (4-5) must win two of its remaining three games to qualify for a bowl bid for the first time since the 2016 season. UAB (6-2) flopped in its first appearance against a Power 5 opponent this season.

Here are five things we learned.

UAB quarterback makes a mess of things

The Blazers turned the ball over on their first play from scrimmage, when quarterback Tyler Johnston III threw a pass right to cornerback Bryce Thompson.

Thompson tied Tennessee’s single-game record with three interceptions.

UAB had four turnovers on nine first-half possessions. Three of those turnovers occurred on the first play of a drive. Johnston fumbled to go along with his three interceptions. He’s thrown 13 interceptions this season.

Nice to see the win. I am confused though why JG was left in the game with a messed up hand when Shrout could have gotten some reps
