Need 400,000 per month for 24 months to get back to the pre2008 numbers. I doubt that is possible no matter who is president at this point in the process. The recovery will last 10 years at this pace and the numbers are likely to go down again before we see any significant increases. I am sure the political machine that is Obama will doctor the numbers to make us feel better as the election nears. Once businesses are confident they can stay in business they will hire, no one can stop them once that is accomplished. All the leader has to do is give them confidence, this is not being done currently.

I think most everyone here on a regular basis knows my story by now. I was laid-off from and engineering firm I had worked for for 22 years in 2008. Was unemployed, widowed and uninsured. Had to sell my house and relocate. Finally found work at another engineering company thanks to stimulus grants from the government to fund telecommunication improvements to rural areas. So in a way I feel like I owe Obama that even though I'm not in agreement with some of his other policies and decisions.
But honestly, many politicians claim they know how to create jobs, get us out of debt, eliminate government waste and buy every household in America a puppy. But I always keep in mind their history. It tells a differernt story for both parties. The basic strategy of both parties when in the White House is fundamentally the same: Take credit for good economic news, blame the other party for the bad.

Yeah this report is all smoke and mirrors coming out around election time. Many have already clarified that some numbers are counting the "Not trying to find work" out of work people just the ones on the books getting unemployment.

And the crazy thing is that economists warn that the unemployment numbers could climb back up because encouraging economic news encourages the "Stopped Looking" folks who are currently off the radar to get back out there and start trying again. I'm not sure how they could be counted since they have most likely run through their unemployment benefits. Isn't the unemployment rate based on how many are drawing unemployment?

You would think that. But alas these numbers seem manipulated too me.

The organizations that are reporting 243,000 new jobs are the same ones that reported 740,000 job losses in January 2009, the month President Obama took office...There may be some smoke and mirrors, but this looks to me to be a one million jobs turnaround...

All information we receive from either party is spun before we get it. Once the news organizations became party affiliated we lost our ability to get the facts. The government should be able to get the actual numbers easy.
